Kiln fired "fused glass"
by Victoria Babbin

Rocky Brook Glass Works

Vikki has always been fascinated with stained glass windows in churches and by glass galley pieces.

Working with glass is part of her heritage as she is the great granddaughter of a glass artist from the tiffany era.
She became entranced with glass after attending her first stained glass class in 1988. Since then, much of her time has been spent with the endless hours of collecting materials and designing pieces which she has sold to family and friends and now to the public.

In 1997, Vikki had the opportunity to attend a workshop on "fused glass". Fused glass is made from several layers of glass that are kiln-fired at a high temperature and is the technique she uses to create the stained glass panel shown here.

Dichroic Glass

This piece was designed using state of the art dichroic glass created by NASA which is used as a heat deflector on the space shuttles. The dichroic glass used in this beautiful piece is made by an exotic technique where metallic salts are shot trough an electronic beam gun into a vacuum chamber containing special heated glass.
The Results are quite amazing. Kiln fired glass is meant to be displayed, worn and enjoyed.
